My oh my does the Dutch know how to party? Do they know how to throw a fun wedding? Do they know how to plan a perfect wedding? Yes they do. Well at least Ilse & Joep with their friends & family do!
So a few weeks back I joined my friend a co worker Ingrid Simons to photograph a wedding together in Utrecht, the Netherlands (Holland). And it was the most perfect wedding. Truly. Not only because it was such a pleasure to see two people so crazy in love, but also to see two people have so much fun together and such a fantastic day with their friends and family. I could go on forever, but there’s a few things I love in particular;
I love how Ilse’s dad sat down to play the piano in the morning of preparations and Ilse stood behind him for what felt like an eternity, like there was just the two of them in the whole world…and the piece he played on the piano.
I love how when Ilse walked down the stairs to meet Joep just before the wedding, he looked at her like there was no tomorrow. As if in this defying moment there was no longer two, but one of them and everything was just safe and lovely.
I love it when I realised their wedding car was a Volkswagen bus and I was going to travel with them in it! I have never been in one ever, but always wanted to. For purely selfish reasons I love that that was their choice of transportation 🙂
I love it that when Ilse stood up in church and started to sing a song exclusively for Joep, the whole of the church burst into tears like I have never seen before. I loved every second of that song and even though it was in Dutch and I didn’t understand a word of it, I was in the back holding my tears back.
I love how all of the couples friends and family had come together to organise the wedding. With everything from the farm, the food, the fun, the festival, the signs…it was all made with a whole lot of love and not much else.
I love the afternoon salsa class and the outdoor dance floor filled with guests.
I love that instead of having one cake they had 7, I liked that a lot 😉
I love that everyone got to bring their own plate and write a message for the couple on the back.
I love sing a long when it is proper sing a long. And this was nothing but proper sing a long! People were on the tables, in trees, dancing around the gardens, singing, laughing crying, laughing, cheering, laughing….so. much. fun.
I love the speeches. Not understanding a word, but really getting it, feeling it. The laughter and tears and all the emotions were indicators off course, but the energy was indescribable. Intense and real.
There’s so much to love about Ilse & Joep’s wedding, but most of all Ilse & Joep actually.
I + J. Wow. Thank you for having me and for being just amazing people. I admire you both and the love and passion you have for each other and for everything around you. It was perfect. Thank you.
Lot’s of love, always. A
A few weeks ago Anna & Andrew got married at Longstowe Hall outside Cambridge and their day was, to say the least, spectacular.
The theme for their wedding was “Pride & Prejudice”, one of my all time favourite books (and film). To complete their theme they’d asked their guest to dress inspired by the characters in the story. To add further A & A added details like top hats, fans and umbrellas.
In true Jane Austen style the wedding party travelled to the ceremony in a horse & carriage. And when Anna and her brother came down the lush english countryside path toward the venue, it properly looked like it was taken straight out of a scene in the original film. It was magical.
The rest of the day was nothing short of romance. And to compliment this amazing day, the most beautiful sunset appeared allowing for some golden evening shots of the new Mr & Mrs.
Anna & Andrew, I am overwhelmed. Completely overwhelmed, by your kindness, your hospitality, by your love for each other. Your wedding day was such a romantic day and a true testament to your love. Thank you so much for picking me to be your photographer, I loved every minute of it. Thank you also for the lovely food and for looking after me throughout the day.
Big love and all the best for the future. A
And here’s a little taster from Anna & Andrew’s wedding day.
On this gorgeous day in the Cotswold, the lovely Sam & Daniel got married in a beautiful barn right in the countryside.
Sam got ready in the charming village of Bibury, a typical English countryside Hans and Gretel feel town, together with her bridesmaids and close family. While she was having her hair and make up done, Daniel was just up the road having drinks with his best men and guests. A couple of hours later they were husband & wife and enjoying drinks on the open lawn outside Cripps Barn with friends and family. The barn is right in the countryside, situated in between fields, with lovely views. After a few drinks we walked of for some pictures in the open meadows, walking the country roads and in the fields. The harvest was in full roll and we managed to get a picture in the high crops that afternoon and later that evening we came back to the same field to take some more pictures, only this time the field was no more and we ended up with some great pictures on the hay balls instead!
S + D thank you for bringing me with you to this beautiful and romantic part of England. It was such a gorgeous day, filled with so much laughter and fun. You guys are great together and so easy going. I hope you’re safely back in Australia and enjoying spring time over there.
Lot’s of love. A
I can’t believe how fast time goes when you’re busy and having fun. This last month has just flown away, hence the absence in blog posts. I have so much to show as I have been shooting non stop this summer, so lot’s of cute kids, couples and weddings incoming.
Now onto the lovely Leisha & Andrew who got married in the beautiful Surrey countryside at Woldingham School & Chapel. It was a lovely day in lovely surroundings, and as usual I could have gone on taking pictures of the two of them forever as there was just so many beautiful spots for pictures.
The ceremony was held in the Woldingham School Chapel by Leisha’s uncle. He held a truly passionate and touching service full of energy and love. After the service we walked to the nearby fields to get some pictures in the country. They both love cows, and there was nothing short of them around here, so what better than to take some romantic and natural images in the fields and meadows.
At the end of the wedding breakfast Andrew surprised Leisha with some fantastic fireworks. Very romantic and they were truly spectacular.
Leisha & Andrew, thank you so much for having me there for your wedding and for your special moments. You’re such a match and watching you together all day: perfectly in love. Thank you also for seating me with your guest (and people I’ve actually met at another wedding). The food vegetarian food was such a delight!
Here’s a few favorites from the day. Lot’s of love. A
