I love Sweden.

You might and you might not know that I was born in Sweden. I grew up there and spent my young years in the South, living with my family by the coast.

Every other year or so I try to take a few weeks out of my busy schedule and go back to this truly spectacular country.

So, summer of 2011 I decided to go see a place in Sweden where I’d never been before. Smögen. A little idyllic place, just north of Gothenburg, well known for its fish, prawns and other seafood, it’s long, wooden pier and beautiful, remote archipelago.

It’s a complete tourist trap in the summer months, but if you get up early there’s rewards to be had while you watch the fishermen come in with their catch as the golden sun reflects the beautiful colours of red, blue and turquoise. It’s a breath taking place and such a boost for the soul.

Here’s a few pictures from my morning in Bohuslän, Sweden.

Merry Christmas

December 25th, 2011

I’m sitting in the sofa, in my pyjama and slippers, drinking a cup of hot chocolate. It’s 6am, Christmas morning and I can’t sleep no more. Only me and the dog are awake and all is very quiet and still. I’m happy. Because I have my health. Something I take for granted, but which I’m not [...]

I’m sitting in the sofa, in my pyjama and slippers, drinking a cup of hot chocolate. It’s 6am, Christmas morning and I can’t sleep no more. Only me and the dog are awake and all is very quiet and still.

I’m happy. Because I have my health. Something I take for granted, but which I’m not guaranteed. It means everything to be well.

I’m happy. Because I have love. I am so thankful for my amazing family. For Suny, my love. For my friends, near and far. And for Mozart, my wonderful dog.

It’s Christmas and I have all I could ever wish for!

Merry Christmas to you all! Take time to truly enjoy the loves in your life and fully appreciate what you have.

Lot’s of love, always. A

The importance of compassion…

March 22nd, 2011

I was overwhelmed with emotions of compassion and care that I felt after the earthquake and it’s after math in Japan. And I wasn’t even there.

I cried for the people who was affected and I felt helpless being on the other side of the world. So many feelings inside me of love compassion needed to be told and I wanted the people of Japan to know just how much I care and show them the place they have in my heart.

Around the same time, a child of a friend of mine wrote a heartfelt message for Japan on a piece of paper. She posted it on facebook for her friends to see and got such a warm response.

And this is how it started. My friend, her friend and myself got together to make sure our messages would reach the people of Japan. We started asking people in our local community to send a message, our friends got involved and before we knew it we had a website up and running with messages from the heart to Japan. The word spread via Facebook, Twitter and beyond and before we knew it people from all corners of the world wanted to be involved and share their message to Japan.

In return people from Japan started to get in touch. The messages had found their way around Japan letting people know there is an abundance of love and compassion all around the world, people with Japan in their thoughts and in their heart.

Please join us in sending lot’s of love to Japan. All you have to do is write a message, hold it up and take a picture. Once we’ve received your email your message will go up on the website alongside all the others.

Email your message to: message@amessageforjapan.com

Lot’s and lot’s of love, for everyone. A

Memories…

Yesterday I was on the hunt for an image I took in the beginning of my photographic career. While looking for this one particular image I made a journey back in time. Images that has filled my life, stacked up in boxes in the garage, filled me with memories and emotions of a time that has been.

That’s the thing with images, they tell a story about a place, a person or perhaps an object. But as the author of those images, every one of those images also tell a story about me. A reflection of my journey, of my emotions, of lessons learned and aspirations for the future. Each one a piece of the puzzle. My puzzle.

So today I’d like to show you a couple of those pieces, images taken about 15 or so years ago by a girl with big dreams of a life behind the camera. Happy to report that girl is living her dream.

Excuse the quality, I’ve just scanned them quickly from lovely, fix smelling, fibre based prints.  Lot’s of love. A
